If you want to have a healthy life in your later years it is vital that you start practicing a healthy lifestyle now. Although there is so much information out there about how to live healthy many people hardly do – they are too busy to either eat right or work out. These are the 2 things that are vital to a healthy lifestyle – diet and exercise.
Diet is a big problem for many people – they just don’t have the time to prepare proper meals. If you continue to eat fast food and processed foods you can be certain that you are putting yourself at risk of high blood pressure, cholesterol and heart disease. You meals should consist primarily of healthy proteins, healthy carbs and lots of fruits and vegetables. In case you are wondering, healthy proteins include foods such as lean meats (trimmed beef, chicken, turkey and fish) while healthy carbs include potatoes, sweet potatoes, pasta and whole breads.
As for exercise it is important that you get at least 1 hour of exercise 3 or 4 times a week. Many people do not work out because they don’t have the time or inclination to go to a gym. You don’t have to work out in a gym to get in some exercise. There are lots of fun activities that you can engage in that will give you the workouts that you need. If you enjoy walking, for example, why not go hiking on the weekend? Or maybe you can keep your dancing skills alive by joining a dance class that you attend a couple of times a week. If you have kids you can join them for a game of soccer once or twice a week after work. In other words you don’t have to have a formal exercise routine – if you make it6 fun you will find that it is much easier to do.
Most of us move towards certain goals in life, trying to feel purposeful, fulfilled and above all happy. However, there are times when you feel you are stagnating, you simply cannot move on and feel like something is holding you back. If this is the case, you need to reconsider your environment and your life and make some big changes.
Comfort zone is one of the biggest threats to making a progress in life. Some people enjoy constant changes and surprises. Still, there are most of those who prefer certain routine, habits and security. When this becomes a pattern, every little step out of the comfort zone causes great discomfort and fear.
If this has happened to you, it is time to break the vicious circle. Set a goal to do something completely out of your comfort zone. This will usually include making a big change in life and getting rid of something that made you unhappy or held you back. Take baby steps towards the change, and “practice” by changing some small habits and everyday routines.
Negativity is something that can simply make you feel miserable in any situation. If some people around you constantly bring you down and make you feel insufficient and miserable, you should talk to them and tell them how they make you feel. However, this does not only refer to the negative people around you. You should look deep into yourself as well. If you recognize that you have negative attitudes towards yourself, your work and other aspects of life – it is time for a serious conversation with yourself. Think about what makes you feel that way and try defining what you would like to change. Then, make a plan and start taking steps towards changing yourself, your life, and stepping out of your comfort zone.
Succumbing to your weaknesses
First of all, we all have weaknesses and it is perfectly natural. However, you must not take the weakness take over your life. It is widely known: admitting that you have a problem is the first step towards solution. If you manage to define the weakness that holds you back, you are halfway to getting rid of it.
The next step is to take the bull by the horns and eradicate the weakness. It will take time and effort, and remember that getting help from close people will bring you the best results in this struggle and help you become a better self.
